In the category of ceramics, we offer a range dating from 200 BC - 2000 AD. Over the last 20 years, we have been pleased to offer early Roman pottery fragments, 18th century Italian tiles, Victorian Staffordshire pottery and contemporary studio pottery -- though not all at the same time.
Rather than working within the boundaries of a specific period, we source ceramics visually, paying close attention to authenticity, individuality and charm. These characteristics are on the checklist for all our categories, however ceramic items are unrestricted by a dateline. The ceramics also share the quality of welcoming close inspection for various reasons, not just date of manufacture, age or beauty.
We have a particular interest in process and color - exemplified by the rare grouping of sample plates and the detailed black and white lettering seen in the 19th century ointment and quack medicine pots.
We can be counted on to source rare depictions and unusual versions of a particular form, as in the child holding a nutcracker where there would normally be a doll.
